Little Moab: It's Just Like Moab.... But Little.

Everybody knows that Moab, UT is a Jeeper's Heaven. It's the Holy Grail of off-roading locations. It's been made famous by its breathtaking views, warm weather, and miles and miles of slick rock trails. Every Jeeper needs to make the trip to Moab at least once in their lifetime. This is a critical ritual in the Jeeper's Religion. (More on this in the future.)
Living in Salt Lake, we're pretty spoiled with easy and frequent access to Moab, and we know it. The problem is, once you've had a true taste of Jeeping in Moab, nothing else is ever the same. The trails you used to love just don't give you the adrenaline that they did before, and you find yourself searching endlessly for that "pucker factor".
Although we live relatively closer to Moab than most of the Jeep community, it's not always easy to drop everything for a 4 hour drive and some wheeling. Moab is still far enough from us that we need to stay overnight to get enough wheeling in to justify the drive. It's been a busy winter for my wife and I. We're both working full time during the week, while I teach snowboarding on Saturdays and she works a second retail job. On top of all of that, I'm a full time college student and she's doing additional schooling on top of her jobs. A Moab trip just wasn't in the stars this winter with our busy schedules, but my cheeks hadn't puckered in weeks, and I was craving a taste of the rocks...

In comes Little Moab. Only an hour and twenty minute drive away from Salt Lake City, it provides all the benefits of a close-to-home trail, such as:
- No overnight gear packing
- No food planning
- Make it a full day trip, half day trip, or even a 2 hour trip
- Waking up and going to sleep in your own bed
The phenomenal thing about Little Moab, though, is that on top of these close-to-home trail perks, it's also JUST LIKE MOAB... but little.
Little Moab is a Jeeper's dream. It is the perfect playground for people of all skill levels. Stock Jeeps will have a great time on the dirt trails around the area, and some of the smaller rocks and climbs. Modified Jeeps can find some great challenges, from big, steep ledges to trenches you have to wedge your tires between. Some obstacles require you to grip the rock with your sidewalls. It's just a blast. And believe me, the pucker factor is real here.
Just watch our video we made with our friend @ampd_jeep (check out his instagram!) and see for yourself! One obstacle we even had to use our lockers (we never have to do that close-to-home!)
Even just in our thumbnail you can see us having to get our tire up on the wall a bit just to squeeze through those rocks. Little Moab is hardcore.
One thing that you definitely need out here is a good way to air down your tires. The rocks are pretty grippy, but if you're running your tires at full pressure, they're definitely going to have a hard time with some of these obstacles. I'll do a full post on these later, but for now here's just a little info on what we're using!
To air down: We're using the tire deflator kit by EZDeflator. We found a bunch of similar products on Amazon with bigger names, but honestly, it's just a pin that you screw onto your tire's air intake to let out a pre-set amount of air, and the marked up "name brands" of these don't function any better than the EZDeflators.

They come in a small, sturdy metal box that's perfect for us to pack around anywhere, so we're always ready to air down when we need to. My favorite thing about these is being able to air down all four tires at once! Here's a quick link where you can check these out for yourself! http://amzn.to/2su0BRX
To air up: It's important to be able to air back up on the trail. From Little Moab, it's about an hour on paved roads to get back to Salt Lake, so you definitely don't want to subject your tires to that kind of abuse at low air pressures. Lot's of people have onboard compressors, but we really enjoy the speed of CO2 to air back up. We carry the Smittybilt CO2 tank with us and it's great. Again, there's a more expensive option to go with PowerTank, but this is another case for me where the product is literally just a metal tank of compressed air. Smittybilt will do just fine, and what kind of additional quality could a name brand possibly add to a big metal tank?

The tank has a carrying bag which we use all the time to keep it with us in the Jeep. It will fill our 37's up about four times before we need get it filled, and that costs about $20. Not bad for a quick air up!
Here's a link to the tank as well:
Hopefully you enjoyed this post about Little Moab as much as we enjoyed going there! If you're in the Salt Lake area, go check it out! It is an amazing place to spend a day wheeling and playing on the rocks!
